Ramsauer Via Ferrata from Guttenberghaus
The Ramsauer Via Ferrata (BC) is not very difficult but a long alpine ridge crossing, preceded by a long (1200 hm) approach.
Via the Feisterkare to Guttenberghaus and further to Gruberscharte. Over Hohe Rams partly secured with ropes to Scheichenspitze. Via ferrata crossing (BC) to the Gamsfeldspitzen and back northwards on trail 618.
The Ramsauer Via Ferrata is usually done in the opposite direction (from the valley or mountain station of the Dachstein Glacier cable car).
Author’s recommendation
A stay at the Guttenberghaus offers several via ferrata experiences: Austria Via Ferrata Sinabell, Eselstein anniversary via ferrata, Ramsauer Via Ferrata, Irg via ferrata and west ridge via ferrata at Koppenkarstein, via ferratas in the Silberkarklamm.

Roadbook
Approach to Guttenberghaus (2.5 hrs): We hike past Feistererhof along the stream on a wide alpine road in the forest up to the pastures of the Lärchbodenalm. After the alpine meadows and the valley station of the material cable car, it becomes steeper and gradually rockier. A narrow path leads around a ridge of the Fischmauer into the dwarf pine-covered Feisterer Tiefkar. In short zigzags, the path climbs after a short steep section in the following Feisterer Hochkar under the southern face of Sinabell to the already visible Guttenberghaus.
Ramsauer Via Ferrata: On trail 618 over the scree slope of Eselstein into the Gruberscharte. Here turn left on the east ridge (AB), partly secured with ropes on a rocky path, easy ascent to Hohe Rams with summit cairn. Then we hike on the broad ridge to the left around a ridge elevation down into the broad saddle. Further on the ridge (A) and finally a bit steeper on the jagged east ridge (AB) up to Scheichenspitze with large summit cross. On the west ridge (AB), it continues gently into a notch where an emergency descent is possible on the right. We climb on the jagged ridge (B and hiking terrain) with some ups and downs until it gets quite steep and exposed, partly on brackets (C), down into the notch before Schmiedstock. However, this ridge summit is bypassed on its southern flank (A) to Fluderscharte. Now steeply up (BC) to Hohe Gamsfeldspitze. Along its west ridge, first steeply (B) and then gradually easier into the hollow and briefly steep again (BC) up to Niedere Gamsfeldspitze. On the broad ridge, you walk into the hollow before Edelgrieshöhe.
Descent: Here we take trail 618 to the right down into the wide trough and head for the saddle between Landfriedstein and Scheichenspitze. Through the next hollow up to Gruberscharte, then continue to Guttenberghaus and possibly back to the valley via Anton Baum Weg 616.
