Half-day via ferrata tour up one of the most striking landmarks in the Julian Alps.
Short via ferrata tours are rather rare in the Julian Alps. Thanks to the high-altitude Mangart road, the Italian-Slovenian border mountain can be easily climbed as a half-day tour. As the fourth highest peak in the Julian Alps, the Mangart is also an excellent panoramic mountain. Two via ferratas lead to the summit: the more challenging "Slovenska smer" (Ferrata Slovena), which runs through a steep couloir in the west face, and the easier "Italianska smer", a partially secured climb on the north and east side of the Mangart. Both climbs are often combined into one round, with the Slovenian route usually serving as the ascent. You should not expect the via ferratas to be of German or Austrian standard. Unsecured climbing is often the order of the day, with safety ropes - not always in perfect condition - only found in the passages that are really necessary. The numerous red and white markings that reliably guide you through the gully provide orientation. Technically, the climb is not
