A combination of the normal ascent to the Small Ifinger with the final short via ferrata to the Great Ifinger.
Most via ferrata climbers choose the Heini-Holzer via ferrata, which starts on the path from Naafjoch to the Ifinger saddle and arrives shortly before the summit of the Small Ifinger, then after a few steps tackle the via ferrata described here. Those who want to avoid the large complete via ferrata will find an alternative for the ascent to the Great Ifinger here.
Author’s recommendation
Do not take the cable car down immediately, as an overnight stay in the comfortable Meraner Hut is worthwhile.

Roadbook
From the Meran 2000 mountain station, it goes gently uphill to the Naafjoch, then to a fork where the steep ascent begins (right Kuhleitenweg, then Waidmannweg to the Meraner Hut). A short distance west of the Kuhleitenalm, the path reaches the ascent to the Ifinger, which is now followed. At a table with a round bench at 2,520 m above sea level, the almost continuously cable-secured via ferrata to the Great Ifinger begins, with a traverse. This is followed by a small descent into a crack on the other side of the mountain. Now another short traverse, then it goes steeply up the rock. The last meters are covered without protection on a simple path.
Back to the Kuhleitenalm, then over the Oswaldscharte and past the Oswald Chapel on a wide path to the Meraner Hut.
