    Safety information

Self-assessment: Before each mountain tour, check your physical fitness and properly assess your strength as well as that of your companions – especially children! Surefootedness and a head for heights are often very important!

Planning and preparation: Plan each intended mountain tour carefully beforehand. Hiking maps and guides as well as information from alpine clubs and locals such as mountain guides and hut hosts can be helpful.

Equipment: Appropriate gear and clothing are needed for the mountain, especially sturdy, high boots with a grippy sole. Weather and cold protection are indispensable; weather can change suddenly.

Emergency equipment: Take a complete first aid kit, a mobile phone with a power bank, and possibly a satellite phone.

Rope teams: For alpine tours with technical sections, it is advisable to travel in rope teams. Practice proper belaying techniques and communication with your partners.

Glacier crossing: Watch for crevasses and inform yourself about glacier conditions. Use the right technique while crossing and always maintain a safety distance.

Proper handling of altitude: Watch for symptoms of altitude sickness (headache, nausea, dizziness). Ascend slowly and take breaks for acclimatization.

Weather forecasts: Observe current weather conditions at: zamg.at or www.uwz.at.

Respect others: Follow the 10 rules for proper interaction with grazing animals and leave no litter in nature!

Don't dislodge stones: Do not dislodge stones as this can seriously endanger other hikers. Marked areas with rockfall danger should be crossed quickly and carefully.

Turn back timely: This is no shame but a sign of prudence. It is necessary if the weather changes, fog rolls in, or the path becomes too difficult or is in poor condition.

Emergency numbers: Alpine emergency: 140, international emergency: 122, rescue: 144

    Roadbook

Like with the Königsjodler, you head to the Erichhütte and continue towards Hochkönig. At about 2000 m, the approach to the Grandlspitz via ferrata branches off to the right. Keep right towards a saddle and then cross to the left under the rock face. You need about 40 minutes (140 m elevation) for the via ferrata. From the summit, you descend southeast into a saddle and go right down the gully (partly secured). Then cross left around a ridge to the saddle of the ascent route. The small but fine Grandlspitz via ferrata naturally loses significance compared to the neighboring Königsjodler, although it can easily keep up with its "big brother" in exposure and difficulty. The via ferrata was mainly built by Richard Franzl as a "test via ferrata" for the much more difficult Königsjodler. But it is worthwhile not only for that; a combination with the Taghaube crossing (partly secured A/B) also makes for a beautiful and extensive round. Despite its short length, it should not be underestimated – exposed and demanding.
