The route includes a mix of alpine trail with a short via ferrata renovated in 2018. The view of the entire surroundings is beautiful. The length of the route demands some fitness.

    Author’s recommendation

Try the local salamis and cheeses. Delicious "panini" are served at the Campogrosso shelter.

    Tips and suggestions

In autumn, you have the E5 all to yourself.

    Roadbook

Heading southwest, we follow the main road for a short distance until the E5 clearly branches off to the left. Beautiful mixed forests lie ahead of us. At the fork, we keep left and continue ascending towards the scree channel, shortly passing old World War I positions. The climb becomes steeper via switchbacks. A marble plaque signals the end of the hiking section. Upon reaching the ridge, we clearly follow an undulating alpine hiking path, also passing a short fixed rope section.

The terrain now becomes friendlier, and navigation is not difficult. We reach the junction with the E5 and descend about 50 meters to follow a wide hiking trail. On the opposite side, we can already see the via ferrata. Now, the task is to maintain the altitude and willingly follow the initially wide and later narrow hiking trail to the visible start of the via ferrata.

After about 40 minutes, we reach the easily walkable ridge and follow it to the tour's endpoint.

The first section of the return route northeast proceeds clearly over shortcuttable switchbacks. For 30 minutes, we now follow the same path as the ascent, including the 50-meter descent. At the trail marker, we now follow the E5, turning north. We descend a steep switchback into the valley and later join the ascent path heading northeast. From there, about 30 minutes to the Campogrosso hut.
