Climb along the Castellaccio-Pisgana ridge, which makes it possible to follow the entrenchment route (at 3,000 m) used by the Alpini to link the positions during the First World War.
From the top station of the Presena cable car, follow the path to Passo di Lago Scuro, where there is a military village from the First World War with a church and a hut that has recently been restored and used as a museum. The long stone staircase to the north leads to the Capanna Amici di Lago Scuro and the Corno di Lago Scuro (3,165 m). Regardless of the name, the path leads over exposed rocky outcrops and impassable canals, followed by ladders and narrow climbs. When you reach the gendarme, you can cross the two bridges over the void or go through the long tunnel (with a lamp). The path leads to Passo Castellaccio (2,963 m), from where you can descend eastwards down the valley to the Laghetti del Monticello and the nearby Paradiso cable car.
