On the historic old town route of Waldeck, with views of the Count's castle, you can visit beautiful house facades, the medieval city wall, and small alleys.
Castle - Waldeck Castle and its counts
Changing rulers, merchants, and craftsmen have shaped the history of the town.
The town of Waldeck owes its origin to a knight who once built his castle on a wooded hill high above the Eder valley. What has the sturdy fortress not "experienced" since its existence.
Among the castle lords were imperial troops, French soldiers, and even Englishmen. Only two cannons on the edge of the wall and some war tools in the castle museum remind of those turbulent times. A journey into the past is a visit to the museum of Waldeck Castle. The exhibition focuses on the period when it was a state penitentiary.

For the old town walk there is a corresponding flyer available at the tourist info. But you can also just stroll through the alleys. Information signs are placed at the sights. The path leads past the old parsonage, the town fountain, the shepherd's house, the Netzer Gate, along the cemetery, over the Lindenberg to the Elsterberg. There the old city wall is still well preserved. From here you have a wonderful view of the Edersee and Waldeck Castle. From here, return along the main street to the town center. Passing the market square, you return to the starting point. If the short walk through the old town is not enough for you: numerous hiking trails lead around Waldeck.
