This demanding route leads from the Achtal over the so-called "Umschlag" up to the summit of Breitenberg. Over the "Hochalpe" and the Ostlerforstweg, you get back to the Achtal and to the starting point of the round trip.
This physically demanding route starts in the Achtal. Near the traditional inn Fallmühle, the path branches off towards Breitenberg. Narrow paths lead over the so-called "Umschlag" steadily uphill. Through Allgäu mountain forest and colorful alpine meadows, you eventually reach the Ostler hut. Just a few meters beside the mountain hut lies the summit cross of Pfronten’s local mountain. From here, the paths are somewhat wider but consistently offer a wonderful view. Via the Ostlerforstweg, you return to the Achtal. Once in the valley, follow the course of the river to get back to the starting point of the circular route.

Safety information
Distance is not the decisive factor: Challenging terrain can easily greatly increase the time you usually need per kilometer. Therefore, generously plan the time you want to be on the way. If you have reached the halfway point, plan to turn back if in doubt. If you become more tired on the route than you thought, turn back.
Don't forget water and provisions: Carry provisions and enough water even on shorter runs. For example, energy bars fit easily in any pocket. Drink continuously in small sips even if you are not thirsty. If you unexpectedly spend longer in the forest or on the mountain, sufficient provisions and water can make an important difference.
Assess your running technique correctly: If in doubt, start initially on easy terrain and gradually increase to routes through demanding alpine terrain. Small, quick steps are best, allowing you to react faster and maintain your balance. Good shoes are important. Trail shoes with good tread grip better on terrain and protect your feet from roots or stones. If necessary, get advice from an expert in a trail running specialty shop to find the right shoes.
Use the right equipment: Temperatures can vary greatly, especially in the mountains, and thunderstorms can develop faster than you think. Even in summer temperatures, warm spare clothing for lower temperatures can be helpful in extreme cases and make unforeseen situations less unpleasant. And you should always remember good sun protection.
Better safe than sorry: Inform someone about your planned route and when you should be back. Always carry a mobile phone (with a charged battery) and a whistle. If you try a new route, take a close look in advance at the course as well as the elevation and the technical demands of the route.
