Check out this trail route, selected and verified by the On Piste team and the locals! A phantom dam—which was washed away as soon as it was built—has fortunately given way to a more serious project, resulting in a true gem of a lake.

This trail has a somewhat unique profile, as you need to keep in mind that the elevation gain occurs only over the last 3 km. The route is mainly a round trip, but you’ll have the opportunity to walk around Lake Oignin.
You’ll reach the trail after walking 1.2 km along the road toward the Intriat Dam, and then you’ll cross the Oignin River twice—at the 1.3- and 1.7-km marks (the Saut du Torrez), then head toward the Trablettes hydroelectric plant to cross the Oignin River once more at km 3.2.
Be careful over the next 400 m as you’ll be running alongside the Oignin River toward Samognat and the campground; we recommend doing this section in dry weather because this stretch can be very muddy!
At km 6, you’ll pass by the Gorges de l’Oignin campground for a short break.
As you set off again, you’ll continue along the lake on your left. At the end of the lake, be sure to take the wide turn, staying on the meadow rather than the county road, which you’ll rejoin just before crossing the bridge for 150 m. Then turn right to follow the lake on your right this time, staying on the meadow until you reach thethe Hotel Restaurant du Moulin du Pont for a second break at km 8.4.
Head toward the golf course, and at km 9.3 you’ll cross the stream between two meadows before reaching the hill at the end of the course starting at km 11.
After 200 m, you’ll rejoin the trail on this section, which follows a round-trip route to the finish line.
This trail run is certified as a “Cani’spot!”*
Starting in Izernore, the first part of the route runs alongside the road (please be careful with your dog around the pavement and vehicles). You’ll then reach a beautiful, gently sloping trail that follows a river, where your dog can cool off at various spots.
Because of the river, the trails may be wet and slippery, so you’ll need to slow your dog down. Since the current can be strong and the presence of birds and other hikers may disturb your dog, you should keep your dog on a leash for safety.
*A team of canine experts and On Piste conducted a field assessment to gather essential technical data. This information, accessible via the Cani 'Spot icons on the trail map, helps you prepare for your outing and determine whether the route is suitable for your dog and its fitness level.
