The demanding competition route of the Brocken Challenge leads over asphalt paths, forest roads, and single trails from Göttingen to the highest peak in northern Germany. The route can only be managed in one day by very well-trained runners.
The Brocken Challenge is an extremely demanding race and can only be mastered by experienced ultrarunners. The difficulties do not necessarily lie in the route but rather in the fact that the run traditionally takes place in early February. In the worst case, ice, snow, and temperatures far below freezing can be expected. Therefore, only about 150 participants are allowed on the course each year, which leads from the outskirts of Göttingen to the 1126 m Brocken.
