Challenging trail running route that first leads about 600 meters uphill over partly steep forest roads and then 300 meters uphill over initially very steep hiking paths. Upon reaching a hollow, it then continues more pleasantly uphill to the summit cross of the Rauchköpfl, where you are rewarded with a really beautiful panorama. The descent goes via the Orterer Alm, over a short trail, and then again over forest roads back to the starting point.

This is a rather strenuous trail running round, which first leads about 600 meters uphill through the forest on partly steep forest roads. Here you leave the forest and walk toward the rock face of the ridge path between Herzogstand and Heimgarten. This is already very impressive but also really beautiful. Right below the path a little brook babbles, inviting you to relax and take a small break. At the end, you reach the turning circle and then climb 300 meters over initially very steep hiking paths. Once in a hollow, it continues with more pleasant uphill sections to the summit cross of the Rauchköpfl, where you are rewarded with a really beautiful panorama across Lake Kochel and Lake Starnberg all the way to Munich. The descent goes over the Orterer Alm, which unfortunately is unstaffed, over a short trail and then again over forest roads back to the starting point.

After the route, you can stop at the Fischerwirt or Klosterbräu in Schlehdorf.

    Safety information

The path partly goes over rooty and rocky trails. Therefore, spraining your ankle is easy. You also walk on paths where a fall is possible. So be generally careful and run according to your own skill level.

    Roadbook

You start at the hiking car park and walk slightly uphill on the paved road. Then you continue over a livestock gate on the gravel road, which winds up the former toboggan run. As soon as the path flattens out again, it branches off to the right towards Herzogstand/Heimgarten. You stay on this path until you leave the forest and come out onto a kind of plateau. You walk this to the end. Here you can already see animal tracks going up a steep slope. You follow these until you reach a small sign close to the ground, indicating the path to the left towards Heimgarten. Now it's briefly quite steep and demanding until you arrive in a hollow and jog parallel to the rock face. Just before you meet the Heimgarten path, go right over a small grassy knoll up to the Rauchköpfl. From here, you follow the path back down to the Orterer Alm, which you could see from the cross. Past the Alm on the right is a mountain rescue hut. Passing it, you go downhill through the forest on the forest road. After passing the Rötelstein turnoff, after a few vertical meters, you leave the developed path and turn right onto the trail toward Kreutalm. This path gradually becomes rockier and later leads back onto the wide forest road. You walk down this to the fork in the path. You follow it until you reach a large clearing. Here you get a nice view of Lake Kochel and must follow an animal track over the meadow in the left curve. This then leads into a short rooty path and directly guides you back to the hiking car park where you started.
