Pure running enjoyment in the hills of the Pre-Alps

Not personal best times but enjoyment of the landscape is the focus when on Sunday, September 25, 9 a.m., the Allgäuer Volksbank Pre-Alps Marathon course is run for the eighth time.

And 1300 meters or 900 meters of elevation

With 1300 meters of elevation on the 50 kilometers of the long course, this landscape run presents a challenge but also an experience. Participants enjoy beautiful views of the mountain backdrop from Säntis to Zugspitze. In addition, athletes encounter the Allgäu cattle (these are indeed cows). The blooming Pre-Alps meadows also form part of this natural experience. The effort on tough uphill stretches, for example, is rewarded by the view.

The new organizing team around Joachim Saukel has made it their task for this new edition to shift the route even more into the terrain. "We have succeeded in significantly reducing the asphalt sections and incorporating some wonderful trails into the course," said organizer Saukel.

    Author’s recommendation

Those who find the 50 kilometers with 1300 meters of elevation too tough can start with the shortened course of 30 kilometers and 800 meters of elevation. The short course branches off from the Eschach Forest back towards Buchenberg.

Three to ten people share the route

It is also possible for three to ten people to share the 50-kilometer course. The 30-kilometer course for children's and youth relay teams can also be divided into any number of segments. This option has been very popular in past years, especially with families, hobby groups, and corporate relay teams. Some relay teams also take it as a sporting challenge, so each year the excitement is high: is the first relay faster than the first solo runner? The exchange points are freely selectable, with each person allowed to run only one segment. The bib number together with the wristband serves as the "relay baton".

    Roadbook

After only a few kilometers, the first challenge awaits participants after the start at the Cambomare leisure pool, below the Mariaberg with the Kalbsangsttobel into the first ascent, upon reaching the top it continues via Nesso to Wiggensbach. There, it's up to the Blender and down to Wegscheidel. Then the route leads over single trails and beautiful natural paths into the Kürnach Forest, from the Kürnach valley via the Kreuzleshöhe, past the Buchenberg hillside path and over the Sephenhöhe through the Eschach valley towards Schwarzer Grat. From Wenger Egg, it goes over the Hohenkapf down to the Eschach pond and from there along Buchenberg following the old railway embankment to Ermengerst. From there, the Mariaberg/Mulzer ferry must be overcome again.
