For runners looking for a slightly longer trail. A varied loop with beautiful views
The relaxed start leads gently downhill about five kilometers to Grütschalp. Here you take the lower path towards Sousläger. This section goes over roots and stones through the forest. There is a slight up and down before a short but steep staircase follows. Once at the top, you continue on the trail to Soustal. Here you turn left towards Marchegg. Now a steep ascent awaits, a mix of trail and stairs. At the top, you will be rewarded for the effort with an incredible panorama of Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. You then follow a beautiful flow trail for several kilometers until a junction. Instead of going towards Grütschalp, you climb up here to the Mountain Trail, which runs for several kilometers – always with a view of the magnificent mountain range. Later, you run below the mountain station of the Maulerhubel chairlift and through the Winzerwald before the ascent to the Höhenlücke. On the Blumental side, you have several options to return to Mürren. Or you extend the trail to a half marathon by adding the North Face Trail and returning via Schiltalp to Mürren.

Public transport
Thanks to its central location in Europe, Switzerland is served by international trains from over 12 countries. Within Switzerland, Intercity trains run directly from Basel and Lucerne to the Jungfrau Region. Travelers from Zurich change trains in Bern. The trains run every half hour.
From Interlaken Ost station, we reach Mürren in one hour. We take the blue-yellow train of the Bernese Oberland Railway (BOB) to Lauterbrunnen. We board the front part of the train, as the rear part goes from Zweilütschinen to Grindelwald. Afterwards, we have two options. Via Grütschalp (gondola and train): At Lauterbrunnen station, we cross the street and take the gondola to Grütschalp. Here we transfer to a small train that takes us to Mürren. The trip from Lauterbrunnen to Mürren takes 23 minutes. Or via Stechelberg (bus and gondola): At Lauterbrunnen, we board the bus towards Stechelberg and ride to the Schilthornbahn station. From here, the gondola takes us in 10 minutes via Gimmelwald to Mürren. This route takes 32 minutes.
Directions
The fastest route to the Jungfrau Region from Basel and Geneva is via Bern. From Zurich, the route via Lucerne and the Brünig Pass is recommended. The pass is open year-round.
From the south, access to the Jungfrau Region is via the Grimsel or Susten Pass, both open only in summer. As an alternative, the Simplon Pass with a subsequent car shuttle through the Lötschberg Tunnel is available.
Mürren is car-free. If arriving by car, it must be left in Lauterbrunnen or Stechelberg and public transport used. The trip from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen takes about 20 minutes, to Stechelberg about 25 minutes.
Parking
In Stechelberg, there is a parking lot directly at the valley station of the Schilthornbahn. Below the station in Lauterbrunnen is a multi-storey car park. Alternatively, the parking lot by the Lauterbrunnen church can be used. From here, a bus goes to the station every half hour. On foot, it takes about 10 minutes.
A covered passage leads from the Lauterbrunnen car park to the trains to Mürren. The parking lot in Stechelberg is not covered.
