The Nebelhorn mountain run is one of the most demanding mountain runs in Germany. The approximately 1,400 metres of altitude over a distance of just over 10 km are very steep in places. Although the course is technically easy, the steepest section of the trail on the mountain pine slope requires good stamina. The course record for the run is just over an hour. Even if this time is only achievable for absolute top runners, trained mountain runners should manage the distance in 01:30. For the way back, it is best to take the Nebelhorn cable car down to the valley, as the fastest way back is on foot and not very rewarding downhill.
Author’s recommendation
Those who are registered for the Nebelhorn mountain run can ride the Nebelhorn cable car down to the valley free of charge before the run by showing their identity card and running shoes and sweaty functional shirt.

Roadbook
The starting point of the official race course is the Oberstdorf market square (815m). Alternatively, you can start from the car park at the valley station of the Nebelhorn cable car, which makes no difference in terms of the metres of altitude to be covered and only shortens the route slightly. The route description of the mountain run largely follows the official competition route along the asphalted mountain road from the Schattenberg ski stadium via the Seealpe station (1280m). Alternatively, the hiking trail through the ravine and further up a shortcut directly to the Seealpe station, which also runs on a hiking trail, can be chosen. Up to here the route is pleasant to walk with a gradient of about 12%. From the Seealpe, the gradient decreases noticeably and you run further into the valley. At the end of the valley, the gradient in the mountain pine slope increases considerably and overcomes around 500 metres of altitude over a distance of about 2.5 km. This section of the trail is very demanding in terms of physical condition, as the gradient is usually over 20% and does not return until shortly before the Höfatsblick station (1932m). From the Höfatsblick station the most beautiful part of the run begins. A mountain path leads up to the Nebelhorn summit station (2220m), which lies directly below the Nebelhorn summit.
