The route of the most challenging race of the Lavaredo Ultra Trail: 120 km and 5800 m of elevation gain
The most expert and daring can try the route that every year, in June, athletes from all over the world run who participate in the Lavaredo Ultra Trail trail running competition of 120 km with 5800 m of positive elevation gain.
Starting from the center of Cortina, travel along SS 51 towards Dobbiaco, continue to Cadin until you take path 416/409 towards Passo Posporcora, then turn right onto path 408 towards Pian de ra Spines. From there, continue left along dirt road 417, crossing the Boite river turn left and then right uphill on the dirt road until Sant’Uberto.
Upon reaching the parking lot, turn right along the dirt road heading east. Go through the underpass and turn left reaching the former railway, which you follow for 2 km until you take the path 203 on the right towards Val Padeon/Forcella Son Forca. Then descend along path 203 to Passo Tre Croci.
After crossing the road, take path 209 to Val Bona and the Cristallo Hotel, from there run uphill along path 120 towards Città di Carpi Refuge, then leave it and take left the path towards Misurina/Lago di Antorno.
Continue to the Auronzo Refuge, from there via path 101 go around the Tre Cime di Lavaredo to Locatelli Refuge.
Then descend along 102 towards Lago di Landro, reach the former railway, then resume climbing towards Passo Cimabanche: just past the pass, turn right onto path 108, a dirt road that leads to Forcella Lerosa. From this point the route is the same as the Cortina Trail.
A spectacular route along the race track of the Lavaredo Ultra Trail: a night race of 120 km and 5,800 m of positive elevation gain starting and finishing in Cortina and passing through some of the most spectacular places in the Dolomites, such as Cristallo, the Tofane, the Cinque Torri and the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. Starting from the center of Cortina, follow SS 51 towards Dobbiaco, continue to the characteristic village of Cadin until you enter path 416/409 towards Passo Posporcora, then turn right towards path 408 towards Pian de ra Spines. From here continue left along dirt road 417 and, after crossing the Boite river, turn left and then right uphill along the dirt road up to Sant’Uberto.
From here turn right along the dirt road uphill towards the Ospitale Refuge. Pass through the underpass and turn left reaching the former railway and continue for 2 km until you take the path 203 on the right towards Val Padeon/Forcella Son Forca. Climb the long and wild Val Padeon between Monte Pomagagnon and Monte Cristallo until reaching the ski slopes of Cristallo. From here descend to Passo Tre Croci along path 203.
Cross the road and take the path 209 which will lead you through the forest to Valbona, offering several spectacular views of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. Upon arrival at the Cristallo Hotel continue uphill along path 120 towards Città di Carpi Refuge, then leave it and take left the path towards Misurina/Lago di Antorno. In front of you admire the Tre Cime di Lavaredo and Misurina Lake, the largest natural basin of Cadore, on the right the Cadini and on the left Cristallo and Popena. Once you reach the lake with its crystal-clear waters, it is worth stopping and admiring behind you the Sorapiss massif overlooking the enchanting alpine lake.
After the lake, at the junction, take the paved road to the right towards Tre Cime di Lavaredo. From here begins a seven-kilometer uphill road. Continue uphill to Lago d’Antorno. From here the forest becomes increasingly sparse to give way to clearings, flowered meadows and high mountain panoramas.
Continue to Auronzo Refuge and from there follow path 101 which will take you around the majestic Tre Cime di Lavaredo to Locatelli Refuge, from where you can admire them in all their splendor. From here descend along Val Rienza following path no. 102 towards Lago di Landro. Reached the former railway, resume climbing towards Passo Cimabanche: shortly after the pass, turn right onto path 108, a dirt road that will take you to Lerosa, an enchanting clearing at the foot of Croda Rossa d’Ampezzo and Croda de R’Ancona. From here descend along path no. 8 to Ra Stua and continue downhill along path no. 6 to Pian de Loa, until you cross path no. 10 and then no. 401 which will take you to the wild Val Travenanzes. Climb the long and wild Val Travenanzes for several kilometers. On your left you have the Tofane Group and on your right first Vallon Bianco and then the Fanis Group.
Continue along the valley to Forcella Col dei Bos, where you can enjoy a delightful view: from Croda da Lago and Cinque Torri to the Marmolada. Descend along path 402 until you take path 423 with a left deviation to Col Gallina Refuge.
From here, after crossing the road, descend along path 424 and then take path 440 towards 5 Torri. Continue to climb until the characteristic Averau Refuge, located between Monte Averau and Monte Nuvolau. Upon arrival descend along the dirt road until you take path 452 on the left which must be followed to Passo Giau, where you can admire the Ampezzo Basin and the surrounding mountains.
Cross the road for path 436 towards Forcella Giau and Forcella Ambrizzola, continue on path 434 crossing the wild Mondeval valley to Croda da Lago, with its characteristic refuge and charming Lago Federa. From here take path 431 towards Lago d’Ajal and then 428 which leads to the characteristic Ladin village of Mortisa then descend to Cortina.
