8 km, 530 meters of altitude gain, starting point: Hiking Center Bayerisch Gmain
The trail up to the local mountain of Reichenhall is steep and strenuous – numerous steps must be overcome before reaching the summit. The 400 meters of altitude gain are really tough, but the view is incomparable: the Alpine town at your feet, Salzburg with its fortress on the right side, and the mighty Hochstaufen ahead. It is rumored that the record from the hiking parking lot to the iron summit cross is just over 15 minutes. You still have to go a bit higher before the path serpentines widely downhill and you can let your legs run freely on soft forest ground. A fluffy traverse with a small waterfall and a short uphill section leads back to the starting point. Our tip: After this demanding route, you should treat your feet well. The Kneipp basin in the mountain spa garden offers refreshment and vitality.
