Once around the Lainzer Tiergarten. Always along the wall - more or less - hill up and hill down. On single trails, forest roads, streets, settlements - it has it all.
"RULT" is a very popular route among runners, hikers, walkers, and mountain bikers, at least in sections. An entry into the route is possible almost anywhere, and an exit is also possible thanks to public transport. A shortcut across the Tiergarten or an extra loop within it is also possible (note: please observe the opening hours).
The route is well marked with number 44; counterclockwise you can follow the WienRundumadum signs for a long time, or clockwise the mountain bike signage. In some places, you have to be a bit careful to stay on the right path, as the wall is not always a reliable orientation.
Basically, the route can be done in both directions.

We start our route at the parking lot by the Nikolaitor and thus get the dullest part along the western entrance behind us right away. Here we first go always along the asphalted path, with the main road to the right and the Tiergarten wall to the left towards Aufhof and past the Pulverstampf gate. Shortly after the motorway underpass, the first turn comes to the left. We make a 90° change of direction. This turn is well marked, also with the Wien Rundumadum logo.
We now lose sight of the wall and move a little away from it. Following the path slightly uphill, we now walk along forest roads further until we come to the motorway again. We now cross it through a gate and over the bridge. Right behind it, we turn onto a narrow path behind a gate door, the markings and the wooden arrow pointing to Dreihufeisenberg-Laab are clearly visible.
On single trails and forest and meadow paths, we continue directly along the wall steadily uphill, sometimes quite steeply, until we reach the highest point of our route. A short stretch slightly downhill leads us to a forest road. We keep left and continue downhill along it to the left turn onto the "shared trail" Poppersberg route.
Now it goes very flowingly slightly downhill to the Laaber gate. Those who want to shorten can take the path directly across the Lainzer Tiergarten without any further ascents back to the starting point.
We stay outside the wall and continue following the markings on trails (parallel to the forest road). On somewhat wider paths and past a meadow, we finally come to an asphalted road on which we pass the Gütenbachtor.
Shortly after, we leave the Wien Rundumadum route and turn left off the road uphill again following the wall. It now goes always along the wall until we reach a residential area. Here, turning left and continuing to follow the markings, we reach the Lainzer gate.
Now you have to watch a little more closely where the path leads. Through a narrow passage up some steps (marking and directional arrow are present), we reach the Kleiner Ring. On the opposite side of the street, continue up steps. In Jenbachgasse, we ignore the marking and keep left until we pass a barrier and enter the Hörndlwald. Always straight ahead, we meet the marking again at the beginning of the promenade path. We now follow the promenade path along the allotment gardens and soon have the wall directly next to us again.
It now continues always directly along the wall, one last steep climb in steep switchbacks uphill, and further until we stand on the Markwardstiege. We enjoy not having to walk up it and turn left one last time at the bottom, thus reaching our starting point again past the Nikolaitor.
