The path in the western Bienwald vividly informs about forest and open-land ecological topics via several stations.
The educational trail runs over a length of approx. 8.2 km, divided into two "loops." The southern loop is the forest loop, the northern, smaller one the open-land loop. The route passes through different forest types. Twelve information boards along the path provide information on deadwood and biotope trees, semi-wild pasture management, land consolidation, hedges and field woods, and special features of nutrient-poor meadows and reed beds.
UFFBASSE! - Campaign for considerate coexistence in nature
- Fire & smoking - Making fires, smoking, and barbecuing are strictly forbidden in the forest and must be avoided to prevent fires and major damage to nature and wildlife.
- Be considerate - Always behave considerately, friendly, and thoughtfully towards everyone you meet on the way.
- Nature conservation - Stay on designated paths and avoid unnecessary noise when you are in nature. Leave the forest by dusk at the latest to avoid disturbing the rhythms of nocturnal animals.
- Picnic & waste - Remember a rubbish bag for on the way and take your waste back home. Use only the equipped rest areas for breaks & picnics.
- Leash dogs - Please keep your dog on a leash. Other visitors and animals will thank you.

Safety information
Hiking on natural trails and paths - Especially in autumn, be aware that leaves on the ground can conceal unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees may still fall or branches may drop afterwards. Particularly in adverse weather conditions, natural paths can be muddy and slippery. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or railings. Surefootedness is required in places. You must expect such trail impairments when hiking. If you believe certain path sections are not passable for you, you should bypass them. Despite the "non-deviating" marking of premium hiking trails, we always recommend carrying an appropriate hiking map for safety reasons so that you can quickly reach a safe area in case of thunderstorm or emergency. Trail closures and detours must be strictly observed.
Danger situations - If there is an emergency, quick help is needed. Even though cell phones can send GPS signals, the classic rescue points usually work fastest. These are located at places that are easily accessible for emergency vehicles. Remember the points with the green signs and a white cross. In an emergency, return there and provide the number on the sign when calling emergency services. This way, rescuers will know where to find you.
