Trail 'Spurensuche' around the Steinberg
On the trail of forest secrets - uncovering and understanding secret signs in the forest.
Often inconspicuous because seemingly everyday or hidden and therefore only readable by experts, they meet us in the forest at every step. They are testimonies of the past in the form of old boundary stones and evidence of former forest management or "secret" signs used by forest workers to communicate.
With our trail 'Spurensuche' around the Steinberg, we want to uncover and explain these secrets of the forest.
UFFBASSE! - Campaign for respectful coexistence in nature
- Always behave considerately, kindly, and with foresight towards everyone you meet on the way.
- Take care of nature, do not destroy plants, and always stay on the paths. Try to avoid excessive noise and leave the forest before dusk.
- Remember a garbage bag for the trip and take waste back home with you.
- Please always keep your dog on a leash. Other visitors and animals will thank you.
- For your own safety, observe all trail closures, also on weekends.
- Park only in designated parking lots. Leave space for emergency vehicles and agricultural machines.
- Give priority to agricultural and forestry traffic.

General rules apply:
Especially in autumn, it should also be noted that fallen leaves on the ground can conceal unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rains, trees can still fall, or branches drop afterward. Especially under adverse weather conditions, natural paths can have muddy and slippery sections. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or railings. Sure-footedness is required in places. You must expect such path impairments when hiking. If you find certain sections impassable, you should avoid them.
NOTE:
We strive to announce all closures caused by forestry work or hunting societies on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where hiking trails are closed and we may not have been informed. Should you unexpectedly encounter a trail closure or detour, please follow the instructions for your own safety.

Equipment
For our hikes, we recommend the following standard equipment:
- Sturdy footwear
- Clothing adapted to the weather
- Sun and rain protection
- A sufficient supply of food and drinks, as there are not always places to eat or shop open or available.
- Although the paths are very well marked throughout, it is advisable for safety reasons to always carry a suitable hiking map, so that you can quickly find a safe area, for example, in case of a thunderstorm or emergency.
