St. Martin - Wine and Stone Educational Trail
Asphalted path with views through the vineyards, where 18 grape varieties are presented on information boards, each associated with a stone/mineral.
With extensive panoramic views up to the hills of the Palatinate Forest, to Kropsburg and Hambach Castle, above the roofs of St. Martin, walking on the wine and stone educational trail is highly interesting. This attraction was created on the initiative of the St. Martin Winegrowers Association in cooperation with the Rhineland-Palatinate State Office for Geology and Mining.
On the approximately 800 meter long path through the St. Martin vineyards, 18 grape varieties are presented on various information boards. Additional boards illustrate the relationship between wine, soil, and soil composition. The combinations of wine and stone were made considering various aspects.
Furthermore, the trail offers interesting insights into the geological history of the Palatinate and thus naturally into the rocky subsoil of its surrounding vineyards. St. Martin lies at the escarpment edge of the Palatinate Forest towards the Upper Rhine Graben, which tore open about 50 million years ago. Filled in gabions (wire baskets) and set up as stone columns by the roadside are the three rock types typical for the area around St. Martin in the order of their age.

A good starting point is the nearby parking lot on Edenkobener Straße at the southern entrance to St. Martin. Opposite it begins a farm road at the beginning of which there is a large sandstone with "Weinlehrpfad" (wine educational trail) engraved into it.
From the town center, you can reach the wine and stone educational trail on foot via Haardtgasse, Kellereistraße, or Kreuzweg.
The path leads straight on an asphalted farm road between the vineyards. A rest is possible at the deck chairs, the Haardt Madonna, the stone bench on Burgweg towards Kropsburg, or at the Dalberger bench.
