Children and young people from Althornbach explored their home community of Althornbach as "Spürnasen" and learned to help shape life in the community. Their suggestions helped to create a varied, family-friendly hiking route.
The Spürnasen will create rest and activity points along the route that invite dreaming but also participation.

Roadbook
The starting point is the lime tree in the town centre of Althornbach. On the marked route, we first pass the bridge over the Hornbach. Behind the bridge, we leave the road and turn left towards the Hornbach valley, where the path runs through the meadows along the Hornbach until we branch off onto the gently ascending field path according to the signposting. At the end of this, we turn left and reach a resting place after about 200 m, from where we have a beautiful view of the Hornbach valley. Past the old oak, our path continues gently uphill with a slight right turn between meadows and fields up to the summit. Here at the "Rothecke" we can pause and enjoy the splendid view over the Hornbach valley to the heights of Zweibrücken with the airfield area. Below us on the right we can see the Stuppacher farm.
We leave the resting place to the left, along the edge of the forest, past the model airfield area, over the Mittelbacher height we see a forest in front of us. Our path runs right along the forest edge to a hollow way in the forest, over which we reach the floodplain of the Hornbach. At the end of the forest, we turn left and walk along the forest path to the first right turn. Over a bridge, we come onto the cycle and footpath near Rimschweiler. We turn right onto this and walk towards Althornbach until we reach the signpost of the Spürnasenweg. Following the signpost, we reach the B424 over a meadow area. We cross this and follow the paved agricultural field path uphill on the other side. When we have reached the end of a small forest area to the right of us, we turn onto the field path and follow the marked trail through the forest. Here the Spürnasen have created an adventure forest. At the end of the forest, we reach the paved farm track via a short section of field path. We follow this to the right and reach the village of Althornbach. We follow the village street until we reach a turning to a staircase on our left. Over this, we come to the access path to the clubhouse of the fruit and horticulture association, where there is the possibility to stop for refreshments (observe opening times). The Spürnasenweg leads past the clubhouse and brings us into a small valley niche with an idyllic fish pond. The Spürnasen have examined insect life here and built an insect hotel with information boards. Our path ascends gently with a slight left turn until we reach the summit. From here, we have a magnificent view far into Saarland. Rest and relaxation areas invite you to linger. We follow the path along the summit to the right and walk parallel to the L700 towards Hornbach. Further rest areas and surprises await us along the way. At the height of the resting place at the underpass of the L700, we continue straight ahead to the next summit. From this resting place up here, we have a beautiful view over the old monastery town of Hornbach. The Spürnasenweg turns right and runs along the ridge until it reaches a crossing agricultural field path into which we turn right. Downhill, past the derelict farm, we reach the B424, cross it and arrive in the Hornbach floodplain on the cycle and footpath. We follow this to the right and reach again our starting point.
