Quiet and idyllic lies the small Wasgau community, away from traffic noise, in the southeastern part of the Palatinate Forest-North Vosges Biosphere Reserve. Surrounded by nature, relaxing hiking trails and wonderful views let you forget the stress of everyday life.

Oberschlettenbach lies in a basin, about 230 m above sea level. To the east it opens to the Rödelstein and the Lindelbrunn castle ruins and to the south is bounded by the Buchberg. To the west are the Buhlsteine and to the north the Heßlerberg.

Two free-flowing fountains testify to the community's abundance of water; in some properties open springs still flow directly into the rainwater channel. The fountain in the village center is adorned with a sign bearing the inscription: "Whoever drinks a glass daily has a hundred years of manly strength, only if he does not die earlier and thus spoils the fun."

Whether our water really possesses such healing powers, everyone should try for themselves; so far, it has not harmed anyone.

UFFBASSE! - Campaign for respectful coexistence in nature

Always behave considerately, kindly and respectfully towards everyone you meet on the way.

Take care of nature, do not destroy plants and always stay on the paths. Try to avoid excessive noise and leave the forest before dusk.

Remember a trash bag for the way and take your rubbish back home.

Please keep your dog on a leash at all times. Other visitors and animals will thank you.

For your own safety, observe all path closures, even on weekends.

Park only in designated parking spaces. Leave room for rescue vehicles and agricultural machinery.

Give priority to agricultural and forestry traffic, please.

    Safety information

    Due to current events:

    Corona guide German Hiking Association

    https://www.wanderverband.de/corona-wegweiser

    Generally applies:

Especially in autumn it should be noted that leaves on the ground can cover unevenness, roots, stones or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees or branches may still fall afterwards. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural paths can become muddy and slippery in places. Not all rocks or precipices are secured with ropes or railings. Surefootedness is required in some places. You have to expect such path impairments when hiking. If you think certain sections are impassable for you, you should avoid them.

    NOTE:

We strive to announce all closures caused by forestry work or hunting societies on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where hiking trails are closed and we may not have been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a path closure or detour, please observe the instructions for your own safety.

    Roadbook

From Oberschlettenbach, hike in the direction of Hahnenhof and then continue to the Lindelbrunn castle ruins. Enjoy the view from the Lindelbrunn castle ruins and then continue to the Rödelstein rock towards Vorderweidenthal. However, this should not be the last rock on your hiking route. The "humps" of the Wasgau stretch endlessly to the horizon, offering a dream arena for hikers and an Eldorado for climbers. On your way back to Oberschlettenbach, you will get to know the Buhlsteine with the Buhlstein pillars and the Löffelsberg. You can also choose the shorter variant of the hiking path. In this case, you walk from Vorderweidenthal via Bühlhof to Oberschlettenbach, omitting Buhlstein pillars, Buhlsteine, and Löffelsberg.

    Equipment

For our hiking routes we recommend the following equipment as standard:

    Sturdy footwear

    Clothing adapted to the weather

    Sun and rain protection

Sufficient supply of food and drinks, as there are not always places to rest or shop available or open everywhere.

Even though the paths are continuously very well marked, it is advisable for safety reasons to always carry a suitable hiking map, so that you can quickly find a safe area in case of a thunderstorm or emergency.
