Robert Walser Trail
Robert Walser was a passionate and persevering walker. Especially in winter. In his honor, the writer Peter Morger created the Robert Walser Trail in 1986, the first Swiss literature trail. On this trail, you follow the footsteps of the wandering writer. The path begins in the town center at Museum Herisau and the Walser Fountain. It then leads up to the Psychiatric Center and past house number 1, where Robert Walser spent the last 23 years of his life. From there you go down to the Glatt and on the other side up to the Roserwald. On the next section from Roserwald to Wachtenegg there are particularly many quote panels. Robert Walser died at Wachtenegg on Christmas Day 1956 during a winter walk. From Wachtenegg and later at Rüti, there are beautiful views over Herisau with the Alpstein as the backdrop. From Rüti, the circular route finally leads to the cemetery and Robert Walser's grave before ending again at the town center and Museum Herisau.
