The Luvankoski nature trail is a circular route located a 15-minute drive from the center of Hyrynsalmi and is an excellent trip destination for the whole family. The path runs close to the rapid, and you can hear its roar throughout the hike. In addition to the beautiful Luvankoski, there is lush and beautiful vegetation along the path as well as the old Niskala farm. Along the route, there are information boards that tell about the area's vegetation, Luvankoski, and living by the rapid. Along the path, you can also see anglers catching lake trout in Luvankoski, with the largest catches weighing 7.7 kg and 8.9 kg.
There are two campfire sites along the route; the Old lean-to and the Pond lean-to. Both lean-tos are located in beautiful spots, right by the rapid. The lean-tos have fire pits, dining tables, and toilets.
Very close to the nature trail, on the opposite side of the rapid, there is also an old mill. It is possible to reach the mill by turning left before the bridge crossing the rapid and continuing along the riverbank downstream.

The start of the Luvankoski nature trail is near the fishing permit hut next to the Luvankoski parking area.
At the beginning of the route, you walk along a power line towards the rapid. The path crosses the Luvankoski bridge, after which you turn left and arrive at the yard of the old Niskala farm. The route continues along the riverbank until you reach the first resting place at the old Luvankoski lean-to, which is located at the fork of the rapid. From here, the route continues towards a pond in the rapid section, where there is another resting place, the Luvankoski pond lean-to. From the pond lean-to, the journey continues downstream, from where the path turns right into the forest shade. The route curves back towards the starting direction, where it rejoins the arrival route at the Niskala farm. From here, the same path is followed back across the rapid to the parking area.

Directions
From Hyrynsalmi, Hyryntie, upon arrival, turn right onto road 5 towards Kajaani. Drive 1.5 km, then turn left onto Kuhmontie. Continue on Kuhmontie for 14.4 km, then turn left onto Kypärävaarantie (at the junction there is a wooden sign that says Luvankoski). Continue on the Kypärävaara gravel road about 1 km, then turn left according to signs directing to Luvankoski. Continue on this road for 1.2 km, after which you arrive at the parking area, where there is also a fishing permit hut on the left side of the road.
