Roadbook
The Little Bats Trail follows the yellow-marked hiking route from Rákoš to the Železník hill.
The first information panel provides general information about trees.
After a few dozen meters, you come to another information board and secured mining works, which hide colonies of rare bats totaling 7,000 individuals.
During spring and autumn evenings, they fly out of the mine and can be best observed then. From September to mid-November (or until the first frosts arrive), they intensively hunt for food and build up fat reserves that allow them to survive the winter season.
By further climbing, you reach the highest point of the educational trail - an old charcoal kiln. It is the place where charcoal was burned. Here is an information board presenting the history of charcoal burning in our area.
From there, follow the old charcoal burner’s path, along the game preserve fence and information panels about mushrooms, birds, and water, descending into the valley of the Rakyš stream back above the village of Rákoš.
