A place of peace surrounded by castles and rocks in the middle of the Palatinate Forest. A dream arena for hikers, an Eldorado for climbers, and terrain for mountain bikers. But also an open history book with exciting chapters about Staufer knights, kings, and dukes who built their castles here.
At the "Bethof" you can eat well - as well as in the beer garden of the "Cramer Haus", below the Lindelbrunn castle ruins - or in the "Golden Lamb" in the middle of town: three inns, each with guest rooms – yet Vorderweidenthal in the Wasgau has barely 700 inhabitants! For decades, hikers and guests have come to the valley in the Palatinate Forest near the French border.
In the past, Vorderweidenthal - with connecting roads to Dahn, Annweiler, and Bad Bergzabern – was also a trading and shopping center. Almost only the "Tante-Emma-Laden" (corner shop) remains from this, which is well suited for weekend vacationers and campers. Agriculture also plays hardly any role anymore: at least eggs, honey, or potatoes "from the farm" still remind that Vorderweidenthal used to be a farming village.
WATCH OUT! - Campaign for a respectful coexistence in nature
Always behave considerately, kindly, and respectfully towards everyone you meet on the way.
Pay attention to nature, do not destroy plants, and always stay on the paths. Try to avoid excessive noise and leave the forest before dusk.
Remember to bring a trash bag for the trail and take your waste back home with you.
Please always keep your dog on a leash. Other visitors and animals thank you.
Observe all trail closures for your own safety, even on weekends.
Park only in designated parking spaces. Leave room for emergency vehicles and agricultural machinery.
Give priority to agricultural and forestry traffic.

In general:
Especially in autumn, it should be noted that the leaves lying on the ground can cover unevenness, roots, stones or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees can still fall or branches fall down afterwards. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural paths can have muddy and slippery sections. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or railings. Surefootedness is required in places. You must expect impairments of the paths of this kind when hiking. If you think certain path sections are not passable for you, you should bypass them.
NOTE:
We endeavor to announce all closures caused by forestry work or hunting groups on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where hiking trails are closed and we may not have been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a trail closure or detour, please observe the instructions for your own safety.
Roadbook
You leave Vorderweidenthal at the community center and reach the "Kirchheld" plateau via a concrete path with a wonderful panoramic view over the Wasgau. Past the foot of the climbing rock "Rödelstein," it goes again through farmland, and the view of Lindelbrunn castle ruins is magnificent. Then you continue through coniferous forests and across the local sports club's sports grounds back to the village.
A worthwhile detour from the circular trail is the climb to the Lindelbrunn castle ruins. A magnificent 360° panoramic view over the Wasgau, from the Trifels imperial castle to the Wegelnburg at the French border, rewards the additional roughly half-hour walk. A visit to the "Cramerhaus" hiking hostel at the foot of Lindelbrunn with its lovely beer garden is also recommended.

Equipment
For our hiking tours, we recommend the following equipment as standard:
Sturdy footwear
Clothing adapted to the weather
Sun and rain protection
Sufficient supply of food and drinks, as there are not always dining or shopping options available or open everywhere.
Even though the paths are very well marked throughout, it is advisable for safety reasons to always carry an appropriate hiking map so that you can quickly find a safe area, for example in case of a thunderstorm or an emergency.
