Tips and suggestions
If you are short on time, you can choose a shorter circular route by parking near Napoleon’s Bridge, following signs to Kozjak waterfall, seeing First World War remains, Small Kozjak and Big Kozjak waterfalls. Part of the route is retraced, then you cross the Soča over a wooden footbridge. Passing Lazar campsite, you return along the Soča to Napoleon’s Bridge, where the Soča gorge is clearly visible. In July and August, the path to Kozjak waterfall is very busy. There is parking at Napoleon’s Bridge, but it fills up very fast. During peak tourist times, it is recommended to park in the center of Kobarid (cultural center) or near the cemetery.

Roadbook
From Tonocov grad, we descend steeply down stairs towards the Soča (following signs for Kozjak waterfall). At the bottom of the slope, remains from the First World War are visible. Here, we turn left towards a wooden footbridge over the Soča. After crossing the bridge, we turn left towards Kozjak waterfall. We walk another 10 minutes, crossing a small stone bridge under which the Kozjak stream falls into the small Kozjak waterfall. We keep right and continue the path to the big Kozjak waterfall. The last part of the path goes over stones, rocks, and a wooden footbridge, so caution is needed.
We return to the wooden footbridge by the same path, nearby viewing additional First World War remains (bunkers), then continue along a gravel path to the main Kobarid - Drežnica road. When we reach it, we turn right over Napoleon’s Bridge back towards Kobarid center.
