Vorderweidenthal - forest edge - high forest - Keeseck hut
- Pirmasenser spring - panorama trail - Vorderweidenthal
A place of peace surrounded by castles and rocks in the middle of the Palatinate Forest. A dream arena for hikers, an eldorado for climbers, and terrain for mountain bikers. But also an open history book with exciting chapters about Staufer knights, kings, and dukes who built their castles here.
At the „Bethof“ you can eat well - as well as in the beer garden of the „Cramer House“ below the Lindelbrunn castle ruins - or at the „Golden Lamb“ right in town: three taverns, each with guest rooms – yet Vorderweidenthal in the Wasgau region has fewer than 700 inhabitants! For decades, hikers and guests have come to the valley in the Palatinate Forest near the border to France.
In the past, Vorderweidenthal - connected by roads to Dahn, Annweiler, and Bad Bergzabern - was also a trade and shopping center. Almost all that remains is the „Tante-Emma-Laden“ (small neighborhood store), which is well-equipped for weekend holidaymakers and campers. Agriculture plays hardly any role anymore: however, eggs, honey, or potatoes “from the farm” still remind that Vorderweidenthal was once a farming village.
BE CAREFUL! - Campaign for considerate coexistence in nature
Always behave thoughtfully, kindly, and considerately towards everyone you meet on your way.
Respect nature, do not destroy plants, and always stay on the paths. Try to avoid excessive noise and leave the forest before dusk.
Remember to carry a trash bag for the way and take your waste back home with you.
Please keep your dog on a leash at all times. Other visitors and animals will thank you.
For your own safety, observe all trail closures, even on weekends.
Park only in designated parking areas. Leave space for rescue vehicles and agricultural machines.
Give priority to agricultural and forestry traffic.

General rules apply:
Especially in autumn, you should also be aware that the leaves lying on the ground can cover uneven spots, roots, stones or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees can still fall or branches may break off afterwards. Especially under adverse weather conditions, there can be muddy and slippery sections on natural trails. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or railings. Surefootedness is required in some places. You must expect such path impairments when going on a hike. If you believe that certain sections of the paths are not passable for you, you should detour around them.
NOTICE:
We strive to announce all closures caused by forest work or hunting societies on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where hiking trails are closed and we may not have been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a trail closure or detour, please observe the instructions for your own safety.
Roadbook
South of the town, the trail ascends with a view over Vorderweidenthal and a sight to the Lindelbrunn castle ruins up to the Keeseck hut. At the viewpoint towards Lauterschwan, the pure forest hiking trail leads back through beautiful high forest on a narrow hiking path along L 490 and further over the panoramic hiking trail with a view of the climbing rock Rödelstein towards Vorderweidenthal.
On the ascent to the Keeseck hut, you pass the former “Kirchensteinbruch” where stones for the construction of the Protestant church were quarried. The PWV shelter at Keeseck with its open seating area is suitable for a long midday rest. At L 490, a short detour to the road is worthwhile to refresh yourself at the spring water of the “Pirmasenser Spring.”

Equipment
For our hiking tours, we recommend the following equipment as standard:
Sturdy footwear
Weather-appropriate clothing
Sun and rain protection
A sufficient supply of food and drinks, as there are not always opportunities to eat or shop everywhere or they may be closed.
Even though the paths are consistently very well marked, it is advisable for safety reasons to always carry a suitable hiking map, so that, for example, in the event of a thunderstorm or emergency you can quickly find a safe area.
