The Gomadingen planet path represents the solar system with its nine planets to a scale of 1:1,000,000,000 (1 to 1 billion). This uniform scale is intended to show a realistic comparison of the sizes of the various celestial bodies with the distances represented in the same proportion. Specifically, this means that 1 mm in the model corresponds to a distance of 1,000 km in reality, so every meter traveled corresponds to 1 million kilometers in space. If this distance is translated to normal walking speed on the planet path, we would be moving through space at multiple times the speed of light.
Combined with a wonderful hike from Gomadinger Sternberg through the Lautertal to Marbach, past the pastures and stables of the main and state stud farms to the district of Wasserstetten, the hiker learns interesting facts about each planet and the solar system at each planet's location through specially made boards.

The path begins at the 1.4 meter tall model sun at the foot of the Sternberg. Quickly following at scale distance are Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. The asteroid belt is marked by a panel at the sports field. Jupiter stands in front of the Gomadingen town hall. The journey continues to Saturn, which is set up along the Lautertal cycle path at the Bermannstal car park. From there, the path leads to Marbach, where Uranus is located behind the stud farm restaurant. From this point, the yellow sun model at Sternberg can still be seen well.
A narrow trail now branches off from the wide forest road and leads up the Schelmenbühl. The longest section lies between Uranus and Neptune before reaching Neptune at the hemp seed beech on the Dapfen boundary. The discovery journey finally ends at Pluto at a well-situated point above the Lautertal behind Wasserstetten. Numerous signs labeled "Planetenweg" make orientation easier. The return route is signposted up to Dapfen, where it meets the castle trail that leads back to Gomadingen. Unfortunately, there is no public transport on this route. For groups arriving by bus, the car parks at Dapfen or Wasserstetten are recommended as pick-up points.
