It leads to sights and architectural monuments as well as to relics of coal mining and the evidence of the German division along the Green Belt.
The tour offers hikers pure nature enjoyment in the secluded forests of the Green Belt, the former border strip, combined with exciting knowledge transfer and local history topics.
Along the way, hikers learn remarkable facts about the processing of coal and the economic importance of electrical porcelain for the Neuhaus-Schierschnitz location.

Roadbook
If you hike the entire circular trail, follow the signage of the GeoPath Coal towards Stockheim, cross the patrol path after a short ascent, and reach the Green Belt at the Thuringia/Bavaria state border. Past impressive boundary stones, the path continues over the former Traindorf estate to Stockheim, offering rich insights into mining history along the way.
The shortcut to Buch, which branches off at the Minna Pit in a southeast direction, completes the small circle of the GeoPath Coal on the Thuringian side. The forest path leads through the Green Belt past a seating area with a picturesque view initially to the Bernhard Pit and then down into the Buch district with the remains of the Sophie Pit and from there via Buch Street back to Neuhaus-Schierschnitz and thus back to the starting point.
