Geological educational trail Bundenthal
Geology and nature enthusiasts will find diverse information about the Buntsandstein rock formations as well as earth history in the Palatinate Forest and beyond. On the approximately 1 kilometer long "Geo-Path" with its 13 stations, there are vivid and detailed explanations and exhibits of various types of rocks.
The earth writes history(ies) - and we can read earth history like a book. A special chapter is opened here around the brightly colored rocks of the Bundenthal Fladensteine: witnesses of a time when the southern Palatinate was near the equator and was an inhospitable desert. We invite you to travel back in time and go on a quest along the Geo-Path to get to the bottom of the origins of the Dahner Felsenland - in the truest sense of the word. From the structure of the earth, via types of rocks, to the use of local rocks as valuable raw materials, you will learn interesting facts about the region's geology. The path along the rock formations of the Fladensteine offers a nature experience and earth history you can touch!

Especially in autumn, note that fallen leaves on the ground can hide unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or storms, trees may still fall or branches may drop afterwards. Especially with adverse weather conditions, natural paths may have muddy and slippery sections. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or railings. Sure-footedness is required in some places. You must expect such path impairments when hiking. If you think certain sections are not passable for you, you should avoid them. Despite the "non-errable" marking of premium hiking trails, for safety reasons we always recommend carrying a suitable hiking map, so you can quickly find a safe area during a thunderstorm or emergency.
NOTE:
We strive to announce all closures caused by forestry work or hunting societies on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where hiking trails are closed and we may not have received information. If you encounter closures or detours on site, please heed the notices for your own safety.
