Dear Guests,
Welcome to our Well Trail.
Borniche, Bornaco, Bornich—this is the village that takes its name from its fountains. A community that has been blessed with countless fountains for centuries. In Bornich, a fountain is called a “Born.” Almost every house, nearly every garden, and many public spaces have one. They differ in water quality, depth, construction, and the technology used to draw water. Even though some are hundreds of years old, they still function today. In the past, their purpose was not only to provide water for people, livestock, and plants—no—they were always a gathering place as well. That is exactly what they should remain.
Along this approximately one-kilometer route, you’ll get a sense of the historic wells in Bornich. We want to share not only the history but also the “stories” behind these old water sources. These stories, along with technical details, are documented on the information panels.
We hope you enjoy your exploratory walk.
