Follow the magical path with pictures, stories, and whispers of the forest – all the way to the mysterious Dwarf Stone. And psst: A little Hitzacker dwarf is also along for the ride!
The Dwarf Stone Path connects the Proitzer Mill with the legendary Dwarf Stone and leads through the Schnegaer Mühlenbachtal landscape protection area. Over roughly 2.3 kilometers, both big and small hikers immerse themselves in a fairy-tale world – accompanied by original illustrations from the picture book "The Dwarf Stone" by Susanne Laschütza. Along the way, signs tell the story of the Dwarf Stone and provide fascinating insights into the natural and cultural landscape. The path first passes through fields, then into a quiet forest. On a small hill lies the mysterious stone, surrounded by old trees – a wonderful place to pause. A special highlight: One of the well-known Hitzacker dwarves has taken a trip and hidden at the Dwarf Stone. Those who look closely can discover him! The start and end point is the Proitzer Mill, where the trip can be combined with other offerings.

The Dwarf Stone Path begins at the Proitzer Mill. From there, you first go left – a field path runs through open farmland with wide views over the cultural landscape. Soon, the first boards with pictures and texts from the picture book "The Dwarf Stone" appear.
After a short time, you reach the edge of the forest. The path now winds into the forest, where the sounds change and the surroundings become enchantingly quiet. In the middle of the forest, on a small hill, lies the legendary Dwarf Stone – surrounded by trees and mysteriously covered in moss. A place to linger, dream, and tell stories.
The way back follows the same path to the mill. The route is family-friendly, varied, and combines nature experience with imagination – ideal for a short trip with a picnic in tow.
