Consorzio Operatori Turistici Alleghe - Caprile
Giosuè Carducci stayed in Caprile in the summer of 1886 for a rest period to spend in the mountains. During his stay the poet, fascinated by these places, had the opportunity to walk the most beautiful Dolomite paths including this route which now bears his name. The route is circular, starting and ending in Caprile but easily reachable also from Alleghe in a few minutes even by local bus.
At the entrance of the village, take the Provincial Road leading to Selva di Cadore and following the signs, bypass an isolated house to enter the overlying forest.
With a few steep hairpin bends, you reach the panoramic point of “Bus del Diaol” from where the view over Caprile deserves a short stop. Shortly after, a clearing crosses the undergrowth before the following slopes that lead to Lagusello, a hamlet surrounded by very green meadows. In the centre of the village there is a providential fountain.
Following the dedicated signage, by a small road you reach Pian. The view over Lake Alleghe and the overlying north-west face of Civetta is wonderful.
Here the path offers a deviation: a steep ramp climbs to the locality “Pragrant” where few meters away stands a majestic ancient spruce about 400 years old! It is said that Carducci rested in its shade before climbing to Cima Fertazza.
Back in Pian and reaching the first houses, you will notice the excellent state of preservation of the small village, remarkable mountain architecture testifying to the economy of the past.
Here too a recently restored fountain allows refreshment before beginning the descent along the path towards Tos where after crossing the municipal road, you descend leaving the houses to your left until reaching the valley floor in the “Ai Tuffi” area. At the end of the descent, it is possible to observe a niche in the rock formerly used for the extraction of banded alabaster. From here, following the pleasant cycle-pedestrian path that runs along the Cordevole, you return to Caprile.
