In Bräunlingen, at the end of Kirchstraße, the Bräunlingen Lion with a beer mug in its hand already welcomes us opposite the roundabout. Here you also find the starting board for the Beer Trail. Now we keep left and walk uphill towards the cemetery. Before that, however, we turn left onto the forest path towards Hüfingen.
Over the next 2.5 km, we learn all about the beer purity law, how important good brewing water is for beer, and how beer has developed over the centuries. Chainsaw sculptures underline the respective station theme.
Upon reaching the Roman bath ruins in Hüfingen, we turn right and hike uphill. There, the "Barley" station awaits us. A viewing platform invites you to take a look at the surrounding landscape.
At the former inn Mostschöpfle, we can test our knowledge about the various kinds of beer glasses. It is no coincidence that each type of beer has its own glass.
Our hike continues to station no. 6. An impressive sculpture shows another important beer ingredient: hops. It has a strong influence on the taste of beer.
Now we walk past the elevated water tank and turn right after the small grove. Between fields cultivated by local farmers, we go to the highest point of the trail. From here, you have a wonderful view over Bräunlingen and into the Breg valley.
The descent back to the starting point of our hike offers us one last station: a little hidden to the side, above the brewery, we find a photo wall on the right side. We not only learn something about the last ingredient of beer, yeast, but can also stick our heads through the wall's cutouts and take a souvenir photo.
