WFG für den Zollernalbkreis mbH/Zollernalb-Touristinfo
Between 1900 and 1919, Prince Wilhelm of Hohenzollern made Straßberg Castle available to the Bishop of Rottenburg, Paul Wilhelm von Keppler, as a summer residence. The art-loving bishop had a chapel built in the tower of the then-vacant castle. It was painted by members of the Beuron Art School. The bishop's move was a real stroke of luck for the castle, which was in a state of decay, as Bishop Keppler carried out urgently needed maintenance and renovation measures. In addition, the castle was equipped with water and telephone connections.
The bishop was very popular in Straßberg. When he came by train, he was enthusiastically welcomed by the population. However, he often also walked from Rottenburg to Straßberg on foot.
Because the bishop loved hiking in nature, the Straßberg working group "Jan von Werth" created and signposted the Bishop's Route in his memory in 2012.
