Anyone who wants to accompany the puffing Bimmelbahn between Cranzahl and Oberwiesenthal can follow the approx. 20 km long experience trail and enjoy the scenic views. The path mostly runs parallel to the tracks and follows them along fields, meadows, and through the shade-giving forest. Depending on your fitness, the downhill route is better suited. Stations along the way include the spa town Oberwiesenthal, Hammerunterwiesenthal, Niederschlag, Kretscham-Rothensehma, Neudorf, and Cranzahl. You can also board the Bimmelbahn and travel a section with steam and whistle.
In the Sehmatal area, you can visit the Cranzahl Räuchermann Museum and the mini adventure world in Cranzahl, the Zum Weihrichkarzl workshop, and the soup museum in Neudorf. If you get hungry, the restaurants in Neudorf and Cranzahl offer good and hearty food.

Depending on your physical condition, the approx. 20 km long path can be traveled in two different directions.
1. For an easier option, start at Oberwiesenthal station always going downhill, above Hammerunterwiesenthal and Niederschlag, before the path enters the forest and then passes into the territory of the municipality of Sehmatal, briefly leaving the forest behind again.
2. From the district Neudorf / Kretscham-Rothensehma, the route winds along the tracks back into the Neudorf forest. The path here is sometimes just a rustic footpath. At the signpost to Stümpelbach, you can take a short detour to the water-treading basin on Wiesenweg and refresh your tired legs. Back on the Bimmelbahn experience trail, the path continues under the treetops. The path is wider here.
3. At Vierenstraße, we finally leave the large forest area behind and take a break at the rest area on the Sehma. From here, it is only about 50 m to the mini golf course - for those who feel like it. Past Vierenstraße station along the tracks towards the ski lift, the path continues.
4. The tracks accompany the path through the Neudorf district, past Neudorf station and the Zum Weihrichkarzl workshop. We are now back on the eastern side of the valley under trees and on an unpaved path. At the height of Neudorf church, the vegetation thins out, giving a view of the church. The path then ascends until about Karlsbader Straße 57, where it leads back into the elongated village. There, turn right onto Karlsbader Straße and follow it north for about 140 m. At the Pusteblume kindergarten, turn right again and slowly head uphill towards the tracks in front of Karlsbader Straße 39. The path becomes narrow and unpaved again here. You should keep looking over your shoulder, as the view of Fichtelberg is always a delight.
5. Finally back at the tracks, we cross them shortly before Unterneudorf stop (called Stachelbeerbahnhof by the locals) again. At the crossing, a wooden figure watches to ensure everything is in order. The path continues past the stop before another small forest provides coolness. The climb on the flanks of Habichtsberg is steeper here. Near the edge of the forest, you reach the Hofweg, which leads to Cranzahl district.
6. Following the Hofweg, Sehmatal offers repeatedly beautiful views towards its northern extension. At the Illing day care center, the Hofweg joins Karlsbader Straße. Turn right here and continue into the village. Those who wish can detour to the mini adventure world, which is always a great experience for children. Along Karlsbader Straße, continue to Talsperrenstraße, which leads with a slight incline to a viewpoint above Cranzahl station. If you're lucky, a steam locomotive might just start puffing.
7. Here we cross the tracks and follow a small path to Bahnhofstraße, arriving at Cranzahl station. You can return by the Bimmelbahn. You can also board from any station along the way, even for parts of the route.
8. If downhill is not enough for you, you can of course always do the route in the other direction, always with Fichtelberg in view.
