The educational trail between Weißen Kreuz and Büchelberg has been developed into an adventure and nature trail with 14 stations, designed to appeal to people on different levels.
With the nature forest trail, visitors to the Bienwald can experience the 1860-hectare protected forest area in a special way and learn about the species-rich fauna and flora within the process protection area. The forest area withdrawn from forestry use will develop in the long term into the "new" wilderness of tomorrow. Here, natural cycles from emergence to decay can run unrestricted in the future. The footpath between Weißen Kreuz and Büchelberg has been developed into an adventure and nature educational trail with 14 stations, designed to appeal to people on different levels. Experience nature with the senses, create "Land Art" yourself, admire tree growth forms at the Forest Academy, or do exercises for forest bathing. Along the way, in addition to diverse information about this special forest habitat, new opportunities are offered to approach the forest and nature differently. The basis for this special concept is a varied mixture of information, perception, and experience offerings.
Please note that this is a linear hiking trail. At the end of the nature forest trail at Weißen Kreuz, there is no possibility to return to Büchelberg by car or bus. Therefore, calculate at least double the distance or extend your hike via the Wildcat Trail back to Büchelberg (approx. 21 km).
UFFBASSE! - Campaign for considerate coexistence in nature
- Fire & Smoking - Making fire, smoking, and grilling are strictly forbidden in the forest and must be refrained from! Fires and thus major damage to nature and wildlife can only be prevented this way.
- Be considerate - Always behave considerately, kindly, and respectfully towards everyone you meet on the way
- Nature conservation - Stay on the designated paths and avoid unnecessary noise when you are in nature. Leave the forest by dusk at the latest to avoid disturbing the rhythm of nocturnal animals.
- Picnics & Waste - Take a garbage bag with you and take waste back home. Use only the furnished rest areas for breaks & picnics.
- Leash dogs - Please keep your dog on a leash at all times. Other visitors and animals will thank you.

Hiking on natural paths and trails - Especially in autumn, be aware that leaves lying on the ground can cover unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rains, trees can still fall over or branches can drop afterwards. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural paths can have muddy and slippery sections. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or railings. Sure-footedness is required in places. You must expect such path impairments when hiking. If you consider certain sections impassable, you should avoid them. Despite the "unmistakable" markings of the premium hiking trails, we always recommend carrying an appropriate hiking map for safety reasons, so you can quickly find a safe area, for example, during a thunderstorm or emergency. Path closures and detours must be strictly observed.
Danger situations - If there is an emergency, quick help is required. Even if mobile phones can send GPS signals, the classic rescue points often offer the fastest help. These are located at places that are easily accessible for rescue vehicles. Remember the points with the green signs and a white cross. If necessary, return there and provide the number on the sign when calling emergency services. This way, rescuers will know where to find you.
