This forest hike is long: 44 kilometers. But also interesting, as it follows “in the footsteps of the glaciers” – so the theme – in four loops through almost all the municipalities of the Outer Wasseramt. And even into Bernese Seeberg, where Steinenberg is one of the areas richest in erratic boulders in Switzerland. Over 60 information boards along the way provide insights into the usage history and agricultural special features of the region. The “Bern branch” listed here is 15 km long, suitable for a day trip, and one of four partial routes that can be walked in any direction and order. The route leads to glacial witnesses left by the Rhône glacier from southern Valais about 20,000 years ago. Accordingly, the time span to be discovered on this hike is also very long. More than 100 gneiss blocks with diameters over 50 cm can still be found in the Wasseramt. The largest, the “Grossi Flue” at Steinhof, with 1200 cubic meters and around 3500 tonnes, is even the largest erratic block
