The view from Silberkopf is admittedly not quite as impressive as from Hirschberg. It also has no summit cross. It only allows a view of Hirschberg through a gap between the trees. However, this summit is much quieter in winter (you have a good chance of being alone). In addition, the route is largely avalanche-safe.

    Author’s recommendation

The nicely located Weidbergalm, a mountain bike hotspot in summer, is a pleasant place to linger.

    Safety information

    SAC scale: WT 2

Only low avalanche danger, at most on the alpine terrain on the ascent to the summit.

    Tips and suggestions

An ascent to Hirschberg is not advisable; the south side of Hirschberg is a wildlife sanctuary in winter.

    Roadbook

Starting directly at the bus stop "Rathaus, Kreuth" (771 m), we follow the signposted forest path and ascend along the Pletschergraben. After just under an hour, we cross a forest road, a few minutes later we reach it again and now walk a few meters to the left to the forest hut (1181 m) and then to the right towards the Gründlhütte. After a few minutes, a forest path branches off to the left (Ww. Rauhackalm). A few minutes later, we turn left again and follow the path in a wide right curve over the forest ridge to the Weidbergalm (1400 m). Ahead of us, the valley gently stretches out towards the saddle between Hirschberg and Silberkopf, we ascend gently over the meadow ridge to the group of trees and then cross, keeping left, the slope to the summit (1540 m).

On the descent, first back to the Weidbergalm, then descend southwards in a right curve via the alpine path. At the lower end of the alpine terrain, turn left and pass a picturesque hut to the fork in the path (P. 1285). Here turn left back to the forest hut (1181 m), where we had turned right on the ascent. Follow the ascent path back to Kreuth until the fork 5 minutes before Kreuth. It is better to go right here (Ww. "Kreuth (Gasthof Post)") because the bus stop "Riedlerbrücke, Kreuth" is sheltered from the wind and usually sunny. You reach the stop by turning left to the main road at the beginning of the village by the school and then right.

    Ascent: 2:45; Descent: 1:45
