Schellenberg

Route: From the lowest parking lot, cross the bridge and hike on the forest road past the hunting lodge (with chapel) at Rigel, then past the Akademikerhütte. Follow the access road to the ÖBRD Axams base (1710 m). From here head south to the Almindbach bridge, cross it and continue up the open meadow slope (feeding place). Then it goes steeply upwards through the bright forest clearing with stone pine stands. At about 1900 m, the forest clears and you have to cross the open meadows "beim Stock". At about 1990 m, the broad ridge begins. Pass the simple wooden cross (2055 m) and then the final ascent to the subpeak (2098 m) followed by several humps to the highest point (2108 m). Descent: Return to the "Stock" on the ascent track, then westwards and through the loose forest to the "Schranklen".
