Schafferkogel 1200 m, Hinterstoder Upper Austria

ASCENT: From the parking lot (656 m) across the meadow to the road and follow briefly to the left. From 700 m we ascend on the abandoned family slope and leave it at 845 m. A bit through the forest until we reach the open terrain at lower Buchebenreith 884 m. Short stretch on the road, then keep left to the piste, which we leave to the left at a sign at 945 m. On the hiking trail above the piste in the open forest to Schafferreith with sign 1040 m. Soon slightly left and across the open south-facing meadow up to the ridge; on the left is the mountain hut (1149 m), on the right a signpost. Keep left on the ridge and, from the north side, in a right curve to the summit crest of the Schafferkogel 1200 m with the best view. 550 m elevation gain and almost 1 1/4 hours.

DESCENT: Back to the mountain hut and now descend steeply on the right via the abandoned World Cup piste. At about 980 m past a hut at the left edge of the piste and down to Zamseggerreith (~870 m). A steep step has been reforested; we bypass to the right and then cross back to the left side of the piste. Through the forest and at about 700 m the road is reached. From here, return on the ascent route to the parking lot. 5 m descent and almost 1 hour.

Overall: 555 m elevation gain and less than 2 1/4 hours over about 5.7 km of route.
