Rewarding and demanding snowshoe route starting and ending at the Potsdamer Hütte.

From the hut, ascend westward to the foot of the Kastengrat. Then make a wide northern arc across the plain, passing between Sömen and Roter Kogel. The ascent to Roter Kogel begins at 2650 m, winding up the east side in switchbacks to the summit.
