The extensive plateau between Petersköpfl and Pyramidenspitze, with a touch of the Arctic, is an ideal snowshoe terrain. Many chamois feel comfortable in the rugged terrain, where they find sparse winter food on the dwarf pines. They watch us cautiously; to save them the exhausting flight, we keep a respectful distance. At the Bird Bath Chimney, the Zahme Kaiser shows its grim side with an exciting climbing section: a short, well-secured chimney interrupts our rather leisurely plateau hike. It got its name from a small, water-filled rock hollow at the bottom of the chimney. If avalanche-safe conditions prevail, we can descend over the steep cirque of the Vorderen Steingrube to Hinterkaiserfelden and complete our tour as a nice loop.
From Sparchen, we follow the wide, well-marked path into the Kaisertal, past Veitenhof via the Ritzaualm, 1161 m, to the Vorderkaiserfelden hut, 1388 m. From there, a mostly well-tracked path begins, on which we ascend past the junction to Naunspitze through a steep hollow (not avalanche safe) to the beginning of the plateau. The wide plateau spreads out before us, to the far east we can see the Pyramidenspitze; to the right, it takes only 3 minutes to reach the summit cross at Petersköpfl, 1745 m. Initially, the path makes a left bend, then continues eastward, slightly south below the ridge. We bypass Einserkogel to the south. Over a very steep incline (not avalanche safe!), we reach Zwölferkogel, 1912 m. Shortly after, we arrive at the Bird Bath Chimney. After the rock interruption, we continue hiking over gentle slopes to the Pyramidenspitze with splendid views of the Wilder Kaiser. The descent follows the ascent route.
