We have enough time to acclimatise. The tour starts rather leisurely from Juf in the Averstal, the highest Swiss village inhabited all year round, along the cross-country ski trail through the Juferalpa valley. At the end of the valley, the tour climbs dramatically to the Piot glacier. The route to the Piotjoch to the west is somewhat more leisurely. On the ridge, there are tracks to the winter summit and further over the narrow connecting ridge to the main summit. From both, in good conditions, the view reaches as far as the Bernina Group in the Upper Engadine and the Bergell mountains.
The descent is via the ascent track to Juf. And who knows, maybe the next route is already planned in this paradise for ski tourers and snow tourers.
