The Metschit is a summit located in front of the main ridge of Rila between the mountain groups Musala and Maljovitsa. The starting point is the village of Govedartsi - from there it initially goes along a former ski slope to the Metschit hut and then along a long ridge depending on conditions to the summit or the subpeak

    Safety information

Generally little avalanche-prone - only cross from Small to Great Metschit in absolutely safe conditions!

    Roadbook

From Govedartsi, a road leads about 3 km southwards uphill to just before the valley station of the disused chairlift. Park at the end of the road. Now follow the green marking - initially on a forest road, then uphill over the former ski slope (Note: no markings!). At the upper end of the slope, you reach the disused lift and can follow the forest road again (if the ski slope is too steep, you can also stay on the forest road - but it is significantly longer). A little later, you reach the Metschit hut. From now on, the marking is yellow-green - always follow this; it goes uphill toward the ridge descending from Metschit. Depending on conditions, you can follow the pole-marked path or, from about 2,300 m altitude, head more directly to the summit. At 2,535 m altitude, the rounded summit of the Small Metschit is reached. The crossing to the Great Metschit (2,568 m) leads over a ridge spine - the slope on the left is avalanche-prone, the right side has a risk of falling. Only attempt in safe conditions!
