It is no surprise that there is a cable car to the Jenner – with this view! From the Schneibstein to the Watzmann, the Hagengebirge and Steinernes Meer stretch out before us, peak after peak. Additionally, the Jenner is one of the few mountains from which we can look directly down onto the Königssee. Naturally, we do not want to miss this pleasure, especially since an interesting route leads up from the south, made for snowshoes. However, we have to accept some hustle and bustle, as we share our destination with numerous cable car guests. Those who prefer it quieter go up the Jenner right after the first snowfall, before the winter vacationers have arrived, or in early spring, when the season is already winding down.
We start from the Hinterbrand parking lot to the Königsbachalm fork in the road, 1270 m, and continue towards the Priesbergalm, until after 10 minutes the ascent to the Jenner branches off to the left. Now we hike through the wintry forest with some meters of descent in a northeast direction and come near the Königsbergalm back to open meadow slopes. Above us we can already see the summit of the Jenner; with stable conditions, we can ascend directly to the mountain station over steep south-facing slopes. More pleasant, because less steep, is to continue eastward to the Schneibsteinhaus, 1668 m; from there there is a direct ascent option to the Torrener Joch and the Carl-von-Stahl-Haus. For the Jenner, we describe a left bend and hike along the summer trail through the south-facing slopes of the Pfaffenkegel up to the Jenner saddle, 1700 m, at the edge of the piste area, and climb steeply over the east ridge (piste, watch out for skiers!) to the Jennerbahn mountain station, 1802 m.
