After Großfanes

Tour by Gilbert Holzmann. Directly from the car park in Peder, an old military road leads up to Klein-Fanes. You don't usually need snowshoes to get there. It is also possible to take a taxi to the two huts and enjoy a pleasant walk in wonderful surroundings. After about 2 hours, you will reach the Kleinfanes plateau, where the Faneshütte and the Lavarella Hütte invite you to stop for a break. (The view is magnificent, but the huts are still there on the Rückweg). Continue to the south up a few hairpin bends to the Wetterkreuz at the Limojoch and – now almost level – past the hollow of the snow-covered Limo Lake into the basin of Großfanes with its (closed) hut. In contrast to Klein-Fanes, you are usually almost alone here. Rückweg from Großfanes: Like Ascent.
