The tour starts directly from the car park and climbs gently across the meadow to the "Platsch" - a farm with a white main house. You can also park your car there and start the tour from there. On the way to Platsch, you cross the road to Lignitz and the cross-country ski trail.
Continue into the forest, where the summer trail to Zechnerkarspitze starts. You now follow the forest road and the "Lungau-Extrem" mountain bike route slightly uphill, later even flat.
At a prominent wayside shrine, turn right towards the no-cycling sign and follow the footpath steeply, later even very steeply, uphill. In between, you cross a forest path until you meet it for the second time and follow it briefly to the green sign "Salzburger-Land Landschaftsschutzgebiet". Here, however, do not continue flat to the "Granitzlhütte", but rather continue uphill on the ridge through a sparse stand of larch trees.
You soon reach the viewpoint into the beautiful Granitzlkar, from where you can already see the summit. Now continue into the cirque, always in the direction of the summit cross, which can soon be recognised. At the end of the cirque floor, the trail leads uphill in a left-hand bend (westwards) to the summit ridge, which takes 15 minutes to the summit cross of the Zechnerkarspitze.
The descent is the same as the ascent route, but it is better to bypass the steep section in the dense high forest along the second forest road.
Experienced skiers can choose a direct descent into the cirque floor if conditions are safe.
