The routes to the Finsteraarhorn hut:

1.) The easiest way to the Finsteraarhorn hut starts with the long descent over the Jungfraufirn to the Konkordiaplatz. Here skins are put on and ascend the gradually steeper Grüneggfirn to the Grünhornlücke. Mild east-facing descent on the Fiescher Glacier and flat traverse of the steep wide hollow left of the hut. In a few switchbacks to the ski depot and over a small entry ladder on a short narrow secured path to the hut.

2.) Over the Mönchsjoch and the Ewigschneefäld down to the Konkordiaplatz and continue as under 1.)

3.) From Fieschalp/Kühboden via Märjelesee to the Aletsch Glacier and over its long tongue up to the Konkordiaplatz, from here as under 1.)

4.) Over the Fiescher saddle: see description Gross and Hinter Fiescherhorn.

5.) From Oberaarsee (Grimselpass) to the Oberaar Glacier and over it to the Oberaarjoch hut. Descent over Studergletscher and Galmigletscher down to Rotloch and over the Fiescher Glacier up to the hut.

    Roadbook

Over the path and the ladder to the ski depot of the Finsteraarhorn hut. Now descend over the steep moraine slope to the flat Fiescher Glacier. Its body is crossed southwards on a gentle slope to a hollow at the base of the Wyssnollen east ridge at 2900m. Spot for taking off skins. We hike southwards towards the Wannenhorn east ridge. A wide right bend takes us onto the wide glacier slopes north of Wannenhorn and Schönbühlhorn. One can ascend mildly in easy ski mountaineering terrain almost at will. The few crevasse zones can be easily avoided. Clearly before the rocky Fiescher Gabelhorn, the route swings northwards. A wide transverse crevasse can be avoided well on the right or left. This way one reaches a wide high plateau bounded on the left by the Fiescher Gabelhorn and on the right (north) by the steep firn summit of the Wyssnollen. The unadorned summit is first reached via the south flank and then along the firn-covered east ridge. A magnificent viewpoint mountain.

Descent along the ascent route with just under 100m (half an hour) of ascent over the Fiescher Glacier back to the Finsteraarhorn hut or descent via the above described hut ascent routes back to the starting point. We change to the Konkordia hut via the wide east hollow up to the Grünhornlücke with 250m of ascent. Finally a few large transverse crevasses. From the Grünhornlücke enjoy the descent over medium steep to steep slopes on the Grüneggfirn down to the ski depot below the Konkordia hut at the left rock spur before the confluence into the Konkordiaplatz. Over 400 steps of a steel staircase on almost vertical rock now still await the climb up to the hut.
